paladin question about raid UI and key bindings

Hey there Method, since you are the best guild in the world, can i ask a few tips and advice on how to keybind and healing addons used etc for raids. I'm a holy paladin and this is my first ever mmo i got into (i used to be a CS player back then) and I would like to know your key bindings etc and UI addons which could be useful. I don't want to be called a nub clicker :D and ez mode healing addons and would love to learn from the pros on how to keybind on holy pala moves etc.

Hey Saroo, a small guide for you


_THE_ Addon:


Grid (Healing Frame Addon)
Use: Perfect addon to manage healing your raid, you can pretty much play around with any settings here. Debuffs, health shown etc.
Advice: Invert bar color, make the bars bigger (width and height) Frame -> Advanced ->


There is a hell lot of more add addons ons to discover for different purposes, but what i would do is, install an addon, get used to it. Once you have worked your way with it, get another. Starting out with 5 different will confuse you, more then help you. Battlegrounds, 5 mans, anything to help you get used to them - do it.

Small bunch of good addons for optimizing your overview of everything:
Quartz (Casting bars)
Bartender (Bars)
Pitbull (Frames)
Cooldowncount
Classtimer
DOTimer


Keybindings:


Keybind as much as you can, sooner or later you will learn your hotkeys. Running around in Battlegrounds is a good way to learn how to use your keybindings properly

There's always keys that are more hot then others, it really depends on your keyboard, fingers etc.


Your main spells are Holy Light, Flash of Light and Holy Shock - Put these spells on easy keys, like anything from 1,2,3,4,5 or q/e

Example of my keybinds

1 - Holy Shock
2 - Holy Light
3 - Sacred Shield
4 - Flash of Light
5 - Gift of Naruu
6 - Divine Favor
Q - Beacon
E - (Old: Seal of Wisdom) after 30 min seal, i still haven't suited the perfect spell here
SHIFT + Q - Divine Plea
SHIFT + E - Judgement of Wisdom
SHIFT + 1 - Hand of Sacrifice
SHIFT + 2 - Lay on Hands
SHIFT + 3 - (TRINKET: Use)
SHIFT + 4 - (POTION: Mana)
SHIFT + 5 - Wings
SHIFT + R - Bubble
SHIFT + T - Divine Illumination
SHIFT + F - Hand of Freedom
SHIFT + G - Judgement of Light
SHIFT + V - (Heal Potions)
SHIFT + C - (Mounting)
SHIFT + X - Consecration
SHIFT + B - Hand of Protection
R - Cleanse
T - Hammer of Justice
G - (DRINK)
V - Ventrillo
X - Hand of Salvation
F1 - Seal of Wisdom
F2 - Blessing of Wisdom
F3 - Blessing of Might

- Oh yea, normally i have a few hotkeys i use for special fights, if something i find useful for xx i have some hotkeys i always swap around for whatever, it could be lots of different stuff (also some useless PvE spells for PvP spells)

Keys that are all close to your finger, so i suggest you try to build up around stuff you find easy to do
On most keyboards CTRL or ALTS are very viable
F1, F2, F3 etc are very useful for auras, +30 min lasting spells etc.

Hi Saroo,

for my keybindings i like the bar switching method. With this you can bind up much more than with complicated single bindings. As an example. You move your character with WASD so i have binded my 4 bars onto Shift-W Shift-A Shift-S Shift-D. You are fast on switching and can move at the same time.


Detailed Explanation on the bar bindings and the order of spells&abilities

The Buttons are binded as follows:

Shift-W Bar

The last 3 Buttons are also single binded. Fear = Ctrl-F, Taunt = Shift-Y, the last one is a macro for using trinketslot 14 / Shift-F


Shift-A Bar

This bar is for my offensive spells&seals + fishing -_-

This Bar is used for judging, raidbuffs, rezz. Shift-3 = Water/Bread(Mage), Shift-4(Open for BossItems), Shift-5(Camera macro to set the view distance to max and zoom out), noggenfogger -_- and LoH.

Normaly you can use Pallypower to just rebuff the specific Class/Member but it sometimes bugs incombat and buffs the wrong blessing so i still have every blessing long/short ones binded. Shift-D Bar Button 7 is normaly BoK and same goes for Shift-W Bar Button 7.

E = Hand of Freedom
Q = (Human Racial)
F = Dispell

Ctrl-Spacebar = Healing/Manapotion
Ctrl-D = Set Focus Target

Shift-Y = Taunt
Shift-R = Trinket in slot 13
Shift-F = Trinket Slot 14


Auras:

Ctrl-1 = Devotion Aura
Ctrl-2 = Ret Aura
Ctrl-3 = Conc Aura
Ctrl-4 = Crusader Aura

Xperl:

This is just a unit/playerframe addons. I dont use it as a raidframe addon because grid is much better here. The settings you see there are most likely standard.

Used for organizing the blessing between all paladins and for buffing them.

Recount:

You can track what happens in terms of healing/dps in all ways with the help of this addon.

Grid:

In my pov the best raidframe addon. Fast adding of new buff/debuffs possible on Progress etc. You can also track beacon and your sacred shield with it. In that screen the Yellow square in grid means Beacon on XXX and the Grey square means SacredShield on XXX.

Protec im curious how do you setup your grid like that? i havent played around much in the settings but this is what mine looks like well i kinda just installed it and left it like that its worked for me so far but your grid setup looks quite a bit better

Its very simple just a few important steps. You start with your default profile. You place your grid where you want it and set the transparency of the background and border to 0%. Activate the 3 options like i did: "Clamped to screen", "Frame Lock", "Click through the Grid Frame". If you want you can use my settings of padding, spacing and scale but i think it depends on the res you use etc.

After that you go to Grid > Frame > Advanced and "Enable Center Text 2 Indicator". You can then set in Grid > Frame > Center Text 2 what will be shown there. Center Text should only show the player name. Everything else can be shown with your Center Text 2 like Health Deficit, Offline Status etc...

One more thing:
Grid > Status > Health > Health deficit --> Health threshold (set it to 100)


The rest is just some fine tuning like class colors, name plate in class colors. You can also easily add some buffs&debuffs and for example let your Beacon be shown as a yellow little box in the down right corner and sacred shield in the down left with a different color etc.

If you still got questions i think your guildmembers will be able to help you out since i doubt you r the only one using grid.

Honestly... lol none of my guild members use grid they seem to all use x-perl + clique i actually only know one person but for all the advice youve given me as of late its been very helpful and thank you Protec = )

Hey there protec. How can i display the indicators? liek for scared shield, is it a separate mod or something? also when i set the health deficit to 100%, the name disappears for some reason, any suggestions on this?

Set the health decifit in center text 2 not center text.

If you want the indicators (like sacred shield) in grid you can add them.

Status > Auras > AddBuff ---> "Sacred Shield"

take the exact ability name so that grid can recognize the spell. You can then check your status > auras .... and youll notice the Buff:Sacred Shield in the list you can set a color and the priority there.

The last thing you do is to just add this new added buff to where/how it will be shown in your grid. Example: bottom left corner etc...

Question for Protec,

I'm trying to set up my grid colours, I'd like to have the health bar as black and the health deficit as the class colour.

The only way I can see of doing this is to invert the colours, now this works and the health deficit now has the class colour, but the black which is now the health bar is transparant and I can see the class colour behind it.

Is this the correct way of doing this?
