Hi!

I play a human holy priest on Burning Legion EU. I like being a healer since I think it's the most fun challenge, as well as being an important part in a raid.

The thing I noticed quickly about being a priest is the fact that it's not an spammhealing healingclass. As you can see on many holy pala movies, it's most about spamming the heals on a single target (more with Beacon of light) and shamanhealing is al about spammin chainheal to raidheal. Druids are all about spamming HoTs (what I've understand, can be wrong there).

The holy priest can't spamm a single target or spamm a aoe-heal since it would pretty much burn out their mana completely.

My question is, how can I keep a high amount of heal (overall healing) without spamming and loosing too much mana? I've tried with the classic spamm greaterheal and if it isn't needed, I press a "/stopcasting-macro". I still though get allot of overhealing...

Could any of you holypriest in Method give me some tips?

I also want to add that I really like your work and I hope you beat Ensidia in the comming Ulduar patch!

Now I havn't played my priest since WotLK beta but as I understand it you have to make sure you are using a global cool down all the time. Let it be renew, CoH, PoM, pw:s or just casting flash heals. Unless you stop casting for more than 5 sec to regen mana you shouldn't waste a single cooldown doing nothing. So bascially you have to spam as well. I don't think Greater Heal is so good atm (correct me if I am wrong) so only heals with cast time you should use are flash heal and PoH (when needed).

For the resto shamans I can say that we don't just spam chain heals only. :P

You count totems, earthshield and heroism then? :o

Don't know much about shamans tbh so I am not surprised that what I wrote is correct or not :)

Healing as a holypriest is all about adapting to the encounter and the other healers. So it's kind of impossible to say what spell to use - it depends on encounter and what setup you're running.

In Method we normally have holypaladins taking care of the single target-healing and priests work around that, assuming that a holylight is always landing on the tank any second. That means we mostly use our AoE-spells and healing that's not "competing" with paladins - that would just lead to stupid overhealing if I started to spam Greater Heal and compete with a paladin doing Holy Lights on the same target. Because of that healingmeters are really not that interesting, because you can do your job perfect and still do 50% of someone else's healing. Again, if your guild don't bring holypaladins doing this job, then you probably should use a many Greater Heals.

A lot of things will change in 3.1 and as we're playing the beta now for that patch it feels kind of useless to go into a big guide on how to manage mana in 3.08 when so many things will change in a couple of weeks. Basically manaregen at the moment is all about exploiting Clearcasts to get into spirit regen for a longer period of time (2-3 ticks outside the five second rule). If you're not on spirit regen you should maximize every single GCD so you heal a lot when you actually heal and then you take "breaks" to gain mana back. Sadly they remove this fun and "hard" part of the priestclass in 3.1 and give us a braindead version of clearcasting that doesn't require anything.

Good luck.

I will come back shortly after the Ulduar patch and ask again :)

But thank you for the answer and I'll try everything out until then! :)
