• Scene News: LFR exploit bans

Update: Its no longer a rumor - 8 day bans have been handed out.

It appears that the top guilds (including us) who have speculated they won't get banned for exploiting LFR have been proven wrong. Just an hour ago Blizzard sent out a huge wave of bans and so far the majority of our roster is affected. Multiple other top guilds such as Paragon, Ensidia and Envy also confirmed that a lot of their members get a suspension message when they try to log into their accounts.

None of our members has received an email confirming the ban or a notification about the ban duration yet but this screenshot is currently floating around the net:

Note *Update*: The image is now confirmed legit.

Some players seem to have dodged the ban and others claim they are banned permanently. I guess it will take atleast a couple of more hours or even a day to distinguish truth from fiction but unless the duration is 24h or less we can already say for certain that this will heavily affect the Dragon Soul progress race.

We will update this post if there are any more news about this, meanwhile feel free to discuss.

8 days sounds a bit over the top imo. I guess some could have been permanently banned if they already had multiple bans over their head.

8 days is way over the top. This is going to backfire for blizzard. They need to stop listening to the witch hunting community and hand out bans that are appropriate. This is no bigger than Ensidia's saronite bombs, Exodus' yogg zero lights exploit, and especially Stars (who avoided a ban completely) who faction changed to reset the lockout. You don't hand out especially harsh punishments because people are in top guilds because the community loves to see the people at the top fall. This is a pretty weak move by blizz.

After waiting 4-6 months it will be a strange race if the ban is 8 days. I am jus wondering as to how the community and other top guilds themselves will react about the kills in a race without some of the key competition.

I'm sure they will react very positively to this, knowing that only the legit non-exploiting guilds will be taking part.

Uhm, what? As if they actually listen to the community? Take a look at the PvP community for the past two seasons, and you can see that they clearly couldn't give two shits about certain aspects of this game. Yes, you do have a point about those previous guilds exploiting, but as far as I remember, Exodus had their items/achievements taken away, Ensidia got a 72h ban, and Stars had payed for a Faction change - which was fixed, and can't be done again in future content. Blizzard decided to throw out bans because ALOT of players were using the LFR exploit, and an exploit is an exploit.. It's as simple as that... I personally have nothing against the top guilds but they had it coming, and they can't justify their actions.

So you're saying it's justified for the players who weren't aware of the issue as well? At the end of the day, this issue was brought to Blizzards attention on the first day of release yet they hadn't addressed it. Many guilds who hadn't previously tried this, attempted it.

Either way, the bans are very over the top. Base these bans on previous examples such as the ones mentioned above. 72 hours? Possibly a wiser choice. Remove the multiple items that the selected players received? A more realistic solution to the problem.

I guess this tier a US guild will claim world first. Vodka, Premonition or Blood Legion.

It is a shame if the 8 day bans are put in place. I was really looking forward to the race, Blizzard has gone and ruined it now in my opinion. The bug was even reported by Vodka on the PTR, but Blizzard waited until now to fix it, and until now to ban the worlds best teams. Not cool.

The punishment is minimal. They could easily ban for longer period disabling all those players from progresssing any time soon. Top guilds loose only two things. 1) the chance to get some world firsts(extra publicity) on first bosses that should be easy and dont matter anyway and 2) Dissapoint their fan base/sponsors hurting a lot their image to the community. Specially guilds like Vodka who said we didnt do it or Paragon who stated that we didnt gain much from it.

Last bosses should be a race that will last multiple weeks(dont we all hope?) and top guilds that got banned are very well able to catch up the rest guilds who will have 8 days(1 reset of heroic gear) jump start. In the end all of top capable guilds for a world first got banned so the race will still be somehow fair.

8 days break only really no worries!

I think its ironic how you abused this system only to get banned when in all reality, you're not really using the gear anymore. Going through your armory, you've made what - 5x25man clears this reset?

If you can't do the time, don't do the crime. 8 Days is rather dumb, seeing as the maximum ban is 72 hours afaik, followed by a permenant ban, which is what people who exploit really should receive.

I wonder why we and other top guild got 8 days, but many casual guilds 3 days.
Does everyone pay the same price?

If you think about it dude, the exploit was there, if Method had not of exploited it and paragon had exploited it and gotten away with it? Then paragon is at an unfair advantage. Blizzard needs to either fix exploits faster or just take away the gear and let the Race to World First commence properly. I don't wanna see some US team knock the EU teams off the top. Still hope you guys can catch up if this ban does set you all back a week!!
