Welcome to the Retribution Paladin guide for Mists of Pandaria. This guide will cover some core changes that have been made to the Retribution paladins in the upcoming expansion. It also includes useful information regarding the class in general such as what gear is the best and where to find it. Hopefully you'll like it.
Inquisition - finisher that increases our Holy Damage by 30% and our Critical Strike Chance by 10% and lasts 10 seconds per Holy Power spent.
Templar's Verdict - our main single target damage finisher.
Divine Storm - our main multiple target damage finisher.
Judgment - big range Holy Power generator, also stacks Censure debuff.
Crusader Strike - single target holy power generator.
Hammer of the Righteous - multiple target holy power generator.
Exorcism - our strong ranged Holy Power generator that has a 15 seconds cooldown which can reset upon melee hitting the target.
Hammer of Wrath - our Execute ability that also generates Holy Power and can be used during Avenging Wrath.
Seal of Truth - our single target Seal and should be used to stack the Censure debuff if another target is present.
Seal of Righteousness - our multiple target Seal which should only be used if there's 8 or more targets present.
Execution Sentence - single target filler ability.
Light's Hammer - multiple target filler ability.
Avenging Wrath - dps cooldown that increases all damage caused by 20% and give us more frequent access to our Hammer of Wrath ability if the Sanctified Wrath talent is active.
Holy Avenger - a new and reworked version of our previous Zealotry spell which makes our Holy Power generator spells deal 30% additional damage and generate 3 Holy Power instead of 1.
Guardian of Ancient Kings - summons a Guardian which increases our Strength every time it hits the target by 1% and on departure deals damage to all enemies within 10 yards.
Sacred Shield - protects you with a Shield that absorbs damage.
Divine Protection - reduces Magic damage taken by 40%.
Divine Shield - protects you from all damage for 8 seconds but reduces your damage by 50% for the entire duration.
Devotion Aura - Raid cooldown that reduces Magic damage taken by all Raid members within 40 yards by 20% and makes them immune to Interrupting and Silencing effects.
Hand of Protection - makes a player immune to physical damage and will be proven useful in the MoP raiding tier.
Lay on Hands - grants a friendly target Health that is equal to your maximum Health.
Rebuke - our interrupt spell, notice that it has a much larger cooldown than previously.
Hammer of Justice - our stun spell.
Hand of Freedom - makes us immune to movement impairing effects for 6 seconds.
Hand of Salvation - reduces a players threat.
Emancipate - removes a movement impairing effect from yourself.
As you might have noticed in the previous patch, the Talent system has been revamped and made much more simpler. Now we only have 6 tiers to choose spells from, but do notice that most of the spells are situational and you can choose them according to personal preference. The following talent that are marked with red are the ones I personally prefer for most of the MoP encounters, while you want to switch around a few talents for some of the bosses.
Tier 1 - Movement Speed
Speed of Light - definitely a good cooldown if you are brought in tight situations.
Long Arm of the Law - great spell for some fights in MoP where you need the small intervals of increased movement speed to escape death.
Pursuit of Justice - my choice for this tier as it gives the most movement speed overall in fights.
Tier 2 - Crowd Control
Fist of Justice - not a good spell for a PvE environment.
Repentance - can be useful but only for trash crowd control.
Burden of Guilt - I think this is the best choice for PvE as on a few bosses you'll end up kiting adds.
Tier 3 - Healing
Selfless Healer - 2nd choice for this tier, mostly situational that you need to spend a global cooldown when you need a heal which might be in the middle of your rotation.
Eternal Flame - healing talent, not worth using.
Sacred Shield - useful as you can throw it into your rotation as a filler to mitigate some future damage.
Tier 4 - Utility
Hand of Purity - bad talent, not worth using.
Unbreakable Spirit - not good but not bad either, can has its own purpose but definitely worse than our last talent in this tree.
Clemency - best choice for this tier as for some encounters in MoP, it's really good to have as many Hand of Protections as possible.
Tier 5 - Dps
Holy Avenger - as much as I like this spell, this is currently the worst one of the 3 talents in this tree both with heroic BiS gear and pre-raid gear. It might be useful on fights that require bursts, but for most bosses this talent is not worth choosing.
Sanctified Wrath - this is the talent with the highest Dps output, I suggest you use this Talent.
Divine Purpose - this talent is second best and close to the Sanctified Wrath. If you like this talent more and you have luck when it comes to RNG, then pick this talent up.
Tier 6 - New Spells
Holy Prism - proven to be the worst one of the last tier talents so far with the least amount of damage output.
Light's Hammer - great ability for multiple target fights with a decent amount of damage output.
Execution Sentence - this ability is a great single target spell that scales with strength and therefore should be used as we gain some strength increasing buffs.
Glyph of Templar's Verdict - useful Glyph as it's up most of the time during a Boss encounter.
Glyph of Double Jeopardy - the only actual Glyph that can increase our Dps.
Glyph of Harsh Words - can be useful when you can't reach the boss to have a finisher that can hit hard.
Glyph of Mass Exorcism - replace Glyph of Harsh Words for this glyph on fights that requite you to aoe.
Use them according to personal preferences, they do not impact your dps.
The stat priority is as followed:
Strength > Hit > Expertise > Haste > Crit > Mastery
Pre-raid gear stat scaling
T14 Heroic BiS stat scaling
It is very important to note here that Gems in MoP give twice the secondary stats than they give primary stats. So for example, in the start you want to gem full Strength Gems because even with the Haste Gems that give twice as much stats, according to the scale factors, Haste will still be not as good as Strength. On the other hand, in full Heroic BiS gear, you will want to gem full Haste Gems as Haste definitely is better than Strength if multiplied by 2.
When reforging, after capping our Hit and Expertise, you will want to reforge the leftovers of the stats into Haste. Using Wowreforge you will be able to optimize your reforging stats and maximize you Dps.
Hitcap: 2550 hit
Expertise cap: 2550 expertise

1. Blacksmithing - this will be the best profession as the 2 extra gem sockets that give secondary stats outweigh the primary stat gain from any other profession.
2. Engineering - it's a bit worse in the start when we're using on use trinkets, but in BiS gear it will be better as there's no on use trinkets that the Gloves enchant shares cooldown with.
3. Leatherworking - out of all the other professions, this one gives the most primary stats gain of 330.
4. Jewelcrafting - the secondary stat gain from jewelcrafting is unfortunately equal to the primary stat gain so jewelcrafting falls in the same category as the rest of the professions that give 320 primary stat.
5. Enchanting - 320 Strength.
6. Alchemy - 320 Strength.
7. Inscription - 320 Strength.
8. Tailoring - 1090,91 Attack Power on average - 180 Hit
9. Herbalism - 320 Haste.
10. Skinning - 320 Critical Strike.
11. Mining - 480 Stamina.

Here's a few useful addons that I use in raids and that help me with my rotation, buff and debuff tracking etc.
Grid - raid unit frames.
Power Auras - great addon that lets you track buffs and debuffs. It's highly customizable, I use it for tracking my Inquisition timer and for various evil debuffs in raids.
Bartender - great addon for tidying your spell bars and customizing them just as you like.
ForteXorcist - an addon that tracks cooldowns on spells, also has more function but I use it mainly for this purpose.
IceHUD - moves health bars in the middle of the screen, can also be used for resource tracking.
MikScrollingBattleText - battle text that you can customize.
Recount - damage meter.
clcret - retribution paladin rotation helper, I mostly use it for cooldown tracking.
clcpaladinpowerbar - Holy power bar mod.
-will add more pictures of my UI in raids soon.
The Retribution paladin rotation has a few slight changes in Mist of Pandaria. A few of our abilities have had their priority in the rotation changed and there's new spells in our rotation. The flow of Holy Power is much more consistent in MoP and is definitely much more enjoyable to play.
Single target rotation
Inquisition 3 HP > Templar’s Verdict 5 HP > Hammer of Wrath > Exorcism > Crusader Strike > Judgment > 3 - 4 HP Templar’s Verdict > Execution Sentence > Sacred Shield
The reason I put Execution Sentence almost at the end of the priority list isn't because it's bad but because it's better to use it when we have no other abilities available. Let's put it like this, at the start it has a lower priority but in the course of 15 seconds it should get to the top of your priority list, do not delay this ability for more than 15 seconds.
Multiple target rotation
Inquisition 3 HP > Light's Hammer > Divine Storm 5 HP > Hammer of Wrath > Exorcism > Hammer of the Righteous > 3 – 4 HP Divine Storm > Sacred Shield
The same goes for Light's Hammer as it goes for Execution sentence but the reason it goes higher in the priority list is because when adds appear, you want to immediately use the ability as the extra adds that you need to aoe will die pretty fast so there's no point in delaying the skill.
Use this rotation if there is 4 or more targets present.
Use Seal of Righteousness when there is 8 or more targets.
1. Start off with a pre-pot.
2. Just as the fight starts, use your Guardian of Ancient Kings.
3. Use Exorcism, Crusader strike and Judgement to get 3 Holy Power.
4. Use Inquisition with 3 Holy Power.
5. Use Avenging Wrath and start using Hammer of Wrath on the target.
6. Use Execution Sentence as soon as you can without letting the ~15 seconds mark time pass.
7. Continue Dps-ing the target while following the priority in our rotation accordingly.
